William Paul Joseph Tapia

May 7, 1973 — January 5, 2026

Albuquerque, New Mexico

Billy Tapia, full name William Paul Joseph Tapia passed away on January 5th, 2026. He was born May 7, 1973. He’s survived by his son, Tomas Sheridan Tapia. His sister, Christine Anntoinette Tapia. His father, Billy Tapia. His niece Destyne Tapia, his girlfriend, many cousins, friends and dear family members. He is proceeded in death by his dear mother Alice Mae Tapia Griego whom passed on November 12, 2025. Billy had two cats Gale and Ella that proceeded him in death as well, two which he loved and cared for deeply. The ones closest to him described him as caring, understanding, extremely affectionate and he had a blooming sense of humor where his laugh could fill up a room in seconds. He had many hobbies; Billy had an inquisitive fondness for electronics and devices and a curious talent for fixing them. What others found frustrating, Billy found exciting, approaching each problem with patience and curiosity. And if a phone couldn’t be fixed, well, that was reason enough to buy a new one.

His passion for electronics wasn’t just about the devices themselves, but about helping others, sharing knowledge, and finding joy in every challenge, solved or not.  Billy’s curious nature was one of his most endearing traits. He asked thoughtful questions, he noticed the little things, and approached details with a genuine interest that made others feel seen and heard.

He enjoyed many different kinds of music. One of his favorite genres growing up was metal music and he would describe himself as a metal head. As a teen, you could always find him listening to the band Metallica. He prided himself in his long hair which he’s had since he was very young as well as his beard that he spent a long time growing out and always had it in a long braid. He enjoyed collecting things such as colognes, shoes, watches, phones, beanies and hats and other random knick knacks. He also enjoyed watching movies, his favorite movie was The Warriors. He’d always quote the line in the movie “Warriors, come out and play.” in his silly voice and giggle. He even has a signed autograph from one of the main characters and a picture with him. He loved to write as well; he has many journals and poems he’s written since a young age. He would always come up with his own funny sayings, and he’d change the lyrics to songs to make his own joke. He was always making the ones closest to him laugh.

Bill was very close with his mother Alice, he would call her every day on his breaks at work and check in with her, they would always take care of each other and had a very deep bond.

Billy had a unique attentiveness for the little details. He remembered the intimate parts of your personality, your story, the things you mentioned in passing but didn’t expect anyone to hold onto. In doing so, he had a way of making you feel seen, valued, and special,

But Billy had an amazing memory. He would ponder often.  He’d look up slightly and little left and tilt his head - and speak softly about a memory, his voice would soften and become gentle. Billy was a bright light in many peoples lives and we miss him dearly. There are signs of him in every moment, songs that play, people that pass by.
