Victor J. Herrera was born on November 13, 1962, in Socorro, New Mexico, to Miguel Herrera, and the late Beatrice Herrera. He passed away leaving behind a strong legacy rooted in family, service, and a love for the outdoors.
He was the father of five children from his marriage to Elizabeth Lucero: Lissa Herrera; Victor Herrera, father of Antonio and Angel; Rachel Herrera, mother of Jovan, Kayleen, and Isaiah; Lianne Herrera; and Joseph Herrera, father of Joel.
Victor is survived by his sister, Bernice Montoya, and her husband, Tony, and his brother, Michael Herrera, and his wife, Josette, and by numerous nieces, nephews, grandnieces, and grandnephews, each a testament to the wide reach of his family and the bonds he valued deeply.
Victor proudly served in the United States Army National Guard as a Single Channel Radio Operator. During his service, he earned the Army Service Ribbon and qualified as a marksman with the M-16 rifle. His military service reflected his sense of duty and discipline.
Victor had a big heart and was always ready to lend a hand to anyone in need. Outside of work and service, Victor found his greatest peace outdoors. He enjoyed camping, hunting, and fishing, and felt most at home surrounded by open skies and quiet landscapes. Those who knew him will remember his appreciation for simple moments, steady presence, and time spent in nature.
Details of Victor’s final services will be announced at a later date. The Recitation of the Holy Rosary will be held on Saturday, December 27, 2025 at 10:30 am at the San Lorenzo Catholic Church in Polvadera, NM.
