In Loving Memory of Vadin James Chavez

Vadin James Chavez, beloved son, brother, friend, and gentle soul, of Albuquerque, NM, passed

away on August 5, 2026, at the age of 23. He was born on March 10, 2003, to Paul Chavez and

Ellen (Schulte) Carey. From the very beginning, he brought a unique light into the lives of those

around him.

Vadin was known for his extraordinary kindness, quick wit, and wonderful sense of humor. He

had a gentle soul and a laid-back personality that people felt immediately—a warmth and

compassion that made others feel seen, accepted, and cared for. He had a way of making others

feel comfortable, of offering kindness without expecting anything in return, and of leaving

people feeling a little better for having known him. He quietly endured life's challenges with a

strength that was often unseen, carrying more than many people knew while continuing to be

kind, gentle, and caring toward others. His tenderhearted spirit touched many lives, and the love

he gave so freely will continue to live on in the hearts of his family and friends.

Vadin found joy in the simple things and, most of all, in those he loved. He treasured spending

time with his little brother, gaming with his friends, and hiking with his Mom. He loved

attending Arizona Cardinals games with his Dad and had a deep love and appreciation for music.

He lovingly cared for his 14-year-old Shih Tzu, Dorry, who was his companion since age 9.

These moments, big and small, reflected the things that brought Vadin happiness and the

connections he held close to his heart.

Vadin is survived by his father, Paul Chavez; his mother, Ellen Carey; and his bonus dad, David

Carey. He is also survived by his siblings, Jordyn Chavez, Rayen Chavez, and Andre Carey, as

well as a deeply loving and supportive circle of friends who were an important part of his life.

Vadin was preceded in death by his beloved Nana and Tata, Helen and Ruben Chavez, who

played such a cherished role in his life as he grew up. We find comfort in believing that they

were there to welcome him with the same love they gave him throughout his life, and that they

are caring for him now.

Vadin's life was far too short, but the love he shared was immeasurable. He will be profoundly

missed and forever loved by all who were fortunate enough to know him.

Rest peacefully, Vadin James. You will always be loved, always be remembered, and forever

be a part of us.
