Tommy Maestas

Tommy Maestas, age 69, of Albuquerque, NM, passed away on Friday morning, December
22nd , 2023 of natural causes.


He was born June 14th, 1954 in Roswell, New Mexico, to the late Dave and Nora Maestas. He was
a star basketball player at Albuquerque High School and was well-known as the “Bulldogs
Quarterback” for his time as point-guard. He helped lead the team to two state championships
his junior and senior year of 1972 and 1973. During that time he was also a youth counselor
with “Fraternal Order of Police” summer camp, that provided sports opportunities for low-
income youth in Albuquerque. A few years after graduating, from 1977-1995, he married Louise
Torres Maestas. He had a long career with the COA Water Authority, where he then retired and
spent most of his time with his family, making sure to show up to every game, performance and
activity for each of his grandkids. He also made time to always be part of his much-loved car
club; The Drifters. He cherished his 1941 Chevy Bomba and would love to be at car shows,
parades and other local community events that uplifted Chicano Low-riding culture. This grew
his popularity even more with his unique purple car that could be recognized everywhere.


Tommy Maestas is survived by his ex-wife Louise; his two daughters Tammy, husband David,
and Jennifer, husband Angel; and son Tommy. 10 Grandchildren; Janelle, Jenavie, Luis, Israel,
Jennisa, Nicolette, Jaylene, Jesalyn, Tommy Jr. and Angel Jr. 2 Great-Grandchildren; Christine
and Emilio. Sister Mary and brothers Steve, John and Charlie. He is further survived by nephews, nieces, God-Children, other relatives and many friends. His passing is preceded by his
parents; Dave and Nora, brothers; David, Albert, Ray and sister Roseanne, and granddaughter
Jenna.

San Felipe de Neri Catholic Church
