Timothy Wells Karstrom

December 12, 1951 — August 29, 2025

Timothy Wells Karstrom passed away peacefully on August 29, 2025, in Albuquerque, New Mexico with family by his side. Tim was the oldest of five boys: Kevin, John, Rick, and Mark, born to Joan and Jack Karstrom on December 12, 1951, though younger than his sister Linda. They all survive him with wonderful memories of growing up in Waukegan and Ridge Road in Illinois. Tim met his wife, Luz Maria Hernandez, while attending the University of Nebraska and they were married on December 18, 1982. Together they raised three exceptional sons: Gabriel (Beverly), Andrew (Belen) and Martin in Omaha, Nebraska. Tim was a very devoted granddad to James, Leonel, and Diego Karstrom. Tim and Maria were enjoying retirement in Rio Rancho, New Mexico.

Tim graduated from Colorado Academy and completed degrees from the University of Colorado, the University of Nebraska, and Bellevue University in Nebraska. He served multiple deployments overseas to the Middle East over the course of his 28 year commitment to the United States Army Reserve, retiring as a Lt. Colonel.Friends and family often received copies of articles on a very wide range of topics or recommendations of books to read as Tim was very literate and a lifelong student of history especially military, geopolitics, genealogy, specifically his Swedish heritage, and cultures around the world. He traveled to Europe, Korea, and the far east, as well as Africa, Afghanistan, and the US. He climbed mountains, skied, loved canoeing, hiked, hunted, and fished with his family. Tim was an Eagle Scout and committed to furthering the cause of Scouting and requested contributions in his memory given to The World Scout Foundation.
