Theresa Jaramillo, a native of Tucumcari, New Mexico and a lifelong resident of Albuquerque’s South Valley went peacefully in her home accompanied by members of her family on August 7th, 2026. She was 90 years old.
Theresa is survived by and was married to Salvador E. Jaramillo for 72 years. Theresa and Salvador had six children. The eldest son Juan (Marie), daughter Yolanda (Patrick), sons Alex, Chris, Vincent (Rosanna) and Mark. Theresa had five grandchildren, and two great- grandchildren. She loved spending time with them especially for the holidays. Grandchildren, Malibu, Monica, Meghan, Joshua, Theresa Marie (Jerry). Great-grandchildren Juliet, and Justin.
Theresa was born in 1935 in Santa Rosa New Mexico the 3rd of 4 children born to Primitivo Gutierrez and Emily Gutierrez Maes. Her siblings were; sister Antonia (Benny) brother Johnny (Corrin) sister Rebecca (Alberto). Theresa is survived by one sister Rebecca.
Theresa was very active for more than 62 years at Saint Anne’s Catholic Church where she displayed her culinary treasure and time for many events. She used her sewing talents for religious clothing and saint and alter adornments. Her religious life and catechist started at Saint Anne’s Catholic Church in Tucumcari, NM and then for a brief time at Saint Frances Catholic Church in Albuquerque.
She often told stories of her parochial education and her upbringing working in the local surrounding farms during harvest to make extra money. She was a child during world war II, and she remembered helping with the war efforts collecting aluminum cans and rubber tires. She talked about turning the lights out at 9:00pm to conserve energy.
She was a devoted stay at home mother as her children grew. Raising a family was a passion she mastered with joy and affection. She was devoted to her children’s education and guided them all through secondary school. She was excited and helped in any way she could when her children perused careers, packing lunches, and getting work clothes ready.
Theresa loved music, dancing, sewing, creating ceramics, cooking and creating holiday decorations. She loved cooking for large gatherings. Her red Chile and Spanish Rice were unable to be duplicated. Her Tamales were so consistently perfect, and her green Chile went with anything. Her traditional deserts, natias, biscochitos, sweet rice, and empanadas were loved by everyone lucky enough to try them.
Theresa will be missed, but her legacy of love will live on in many hearts for generations to come.
A rosary will be cited on Saturday, August 29th, 2026 at 8:30 am at Saint Edwins Catholic Church, 2105 Barcelona Rd SW, Albuquerque NM 87105. The funeral mass will follow at 9:00 a.m. and a reception for all will continue at 10:00am. All services will be under the Terrace, East of the church.
