Steve "Stevie Ray" Vernon

Steve "Stevie Ray" Vernon was born on November 8th, 1956 in Albuquerque, New Mexico and passed away peacefully on June 13, 2024 at the age of 67. After high school in Albuquerque, Steve joined the Navy serving on the USS Joseph Strauss based out of Pearl Harbor. Upon completing his service he returned home where he would soon start a lifelong career in entertainment. 

Steve traveled the world as a touring Rigger or "Roadie" for the last 40 years working for the biggest stars such as George Strait, Garth Brooks, Janet Jackson, The 3 Tenors, Metallica and many, many more. He was one of the original site coordinators for the Coachella Music Festival as well as working numerous Olympic Games, X Games and Goodwill Games throughout the globe. Also, wanting to do his part for the Veteran community, Steve helped organize an annual music festival benefiting the Marcus Luttrell Lone Survivor Foundation. 

He taught his craft to the next generation mentoring his sons, nephews, many friends and extended family that went on to successful careers in live music, festival and motion picture industry. Steve was an avid outdoorsman that loved the ocean as much as the mountains along with the love of riding his Harley. 

Steve was preceded in death by son, Jacob Lee Vernon and stepson Brian Travis Borne as well as his father Buddy Vernon. 

He is survived by his son Steven Vernon and wife Stacey; his stepson, Chad Borne and wife Kelly; his mother, Marie Sedillo; his sister, Cheryl Serna and husband Jeff; his half-sister, Gabriella Paglia; his brothers, Rick Vernon and wife Starla, Rod Vernon and wife Henrietta; his half-brothers Cody Vernon and wife Kyle and Clay Vernon and wife Leah. He leaves behind many nieces, nephews, grandchildren and cousins in New Mexico and Texas. 

Steve loved his family with his whole heart, and he especially loved spoiling his grandkids who adored their Grandpa and Paw Paw. 

A Celebration of Life will be held in Albuquerque on Tuesday July 9, 2024 from 5pm to 8pm at Ladera Golf Course, 3401 Ladera Drive NW Albuquerque, NM 87120 

His ashes will be spread at a later date at his beloved Crystal Beach, Texas.
