Stephen William Bockemeier, 77, of Albuquerque, NM, passed away on May 24th,
2025. He was born on June 18th, 1948, in Brockton, Massachusetts, to Elmer William
Bockemeier and Elaine Barbara Holder Bockemeier, who preceded him in death.
Stephen was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. He was
preceded in death on the same tragic day by his beloved wife of 50 years, Marcia
Elizabeth Hagele Bockemeier, and two of their sons, Erik and Andrew.
Stephen and Marcia were married on December 14th, 1974, in Springfield, Illinois. In
1975, they moved to Albuquerque, New Mexico, where they raised their family and
remained for the rest of their lives.
Stephen is survived by his younger brother Karl Bockemeier, Karl’s wife Sarah, and
their children Nadelyn and Mina. He is also survived by his son Philip Bockemeier,
Philip’s wife Karen, and their children Keith and Hannah.
Stephen was a graduate of Northwestern University, earning a degree in civil
engineering. He later followed a spiritual calling and earned both a master's and
doctorate degree in divinity from Trinity Southwest University.
Stephen dedicated over two decades of service to the City of Albuquerque, retiring as
the Deputy Director of Water Resources and Waste Management. After retirement, he
fully embraced his passion for ministry, becoming a pastor and Christian educator. His
faith, compassion, and wisdom touched the lives of thousands through his work with
local ministries, teaching, and counseling.
Stephen will be remembered for his quiet strength, unwavering faith, deep love for his
family, and commitment to service. His legacy lives on in the countless lives he
influenced, the faith he nurtured in others, and the love he shared with all who knew
him.
