**Obituary for Solomon “Salo” Valverde**
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Solomon “Salo” Valverde, who left us on May 4, 2025, at the age of 72. Salo was a cherished individual who profoundly touched the lives of many through his kindness, wisdom, generosity, humor, and unwavering spirit.
Born on July 12, 1952, in Tucumcari, NM, to Pete Sr. and Miquela (Rivera) Valverde, Salo grew up embodying values of compassion and resilience. He gained recognition in his youth as one of Tucumcari’s finest basketball players during the late 1960s and early 1970s. Alongside basketball, Salo enjoyed a variety of sports including golf, tennis, ping-pong, and softball. His interests extended beyond athletics; he found joy in woodworking, crafting, drawing, painting, cooking, and landscaping. Salo loved playing card games with family, watching sports, and coaching youth softball and basketball. His larger-than-life personality and captivating stories brought laughter and love to every gathering. He had a deep affection for not only his family and friends but also for all of God's creatures, especially his beloved dog Theo and his fat cat Baby Girl. Above all, Salo treasured his time with loved ones, creating memories that will be cherished forever.
Salo was preceded in death by his parents, Pete Valverde Sr. and Miquela (Rivera) Valverde, his brother Pete Valverde Jr., and his grandparents Marcello Valverde Sr. and Beatrice (Segura) Valverde, all from Tucumcari, NM.
He is survived by his daughters Brandi Sorge, Nicole (Mark) Whitt, Julie (Dusty) Knapp, Jackie (James) Hyslop-Rodriguez, Jessica (Slik) Hyslop-Knapp, Jillian Del Rio, and son Julian Valverde; as well as sons Joe Lisabelle, Josh (Samantha) Hyslop, Justin (Christina) Hyslop, Jake (Brittany) Hyslop, and Jarod Hyslop. He is also survived by his siblings Charlie Valverde, Marcy Maestas, and Rita (Nano) Aragon, alongside 40 grandchildren, many great-grandchildren, and numerous other family members who will continue to honor his legacy with love and pride.
Throughout his life's journey, Salo exemplified a spirit of generosity that defined his character. His acts of kindness, unwavering support, and loyalty showcased the power of unconditional love.
A celebration of Salo's life and graveside services will take place on Saturday, June 7, 2025, at Tucumcari Memorial Park, located at 4161 Quay Road 63, Tucumcari, NM, beginning at 2:00 PM. Pastor Fred Caton will officiate the service. Family and friends are warmly invited to come together to honor Salo’s memory, share stories, and find comfort in the enduring legacy he leaves behind. May he rest in eternal peace, knowing how deeply he was loved and how profoundly he will be missed.
