Ruben Holguin, 75, of Santa Clara, New Mexico, passed away in his sleep while listening to his

favorite music with his daughters, Candida and Gwen, on Saturday, April 5, 2025, at his home.

Cremation has taken place, and a funeral service celebrating Ruben’s life will be held at Santa Fe

National Cemetery on Friday, June 13, 2025, complete with military honors provided by the 

United States Army Honor Guard. Serving as honorary pallbearers are Robert, Charles, 

Tyler, Angel, Ruben, and Mathew, Adrian and PJ.


Born on September 16, 1949, in Silver City, New Mexico, to Manuel and Susie Holguin, Ruben

began his working life in the mining industry, and later served as a mechanic in the United States

Army, and ultimately enjoyed a distinguished career as Chief of Police in Santa Clara, dedicating

his life to protecting and serving his community. An avid car enthusiast, Ruben loved rebuilding 

engines and painting classic cars, and served as president of the Santa Clara Car Club. He also cherished 

the outdoors—picnicking, camping, and fishing with his family. He will be deeply missed 

by all who knew and loved him.


Ruben is survived by five children—four daughters: Patricia (Filiberto) Carillo, Rhonda (George) Rivera, 

Candida Maldonado, and Gwen Holguin, and one son, Randy Holguin, along with two brothers, Rodolfo 

and Ralphy Holguin, and one sister, Rosalie Munoz. His legacy continues through his grandchildren: Michael, 

Joey, Matthew, Nathaniel, Bianca, Mariah, George, Mariciella, Jazmine, Katrina, Charles, Robert, 

Jennifer, Gabrielle, Mona-Lisa, Angelina, Anastasia, Santana, and his 30 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Ruben was preceded in death by his brother, Raynaldo Holguin, and his grandchild, Emmanuel Valdez.

He will be remembered as a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, great-great-grandfather, 

brother and friend whose presence touched the lives of many.
