Ronald "Ron"
Gonzales
May 12, 1944 – May 7, 2026
Ronald “Ron” Gonzales, age 81, of Albuquerque, New Mexico, passed away on May 7, 2026.
Ron was born and raised in the Barelas neighborhood of Albuquerque, a place he always carried with pride. He went on to serve his country in the United States Air Force before building a respected career as a police officer with the Albuquerque Police Department. Later, he worked as an electrician with the Santa Fe Railroad, where he became a strong advocate and served as a Union Vice President with IBEW.
Ron was known for his sharp mind and incredible knowledge—there wasn’t much he didn’t understand or couldn’t figure out. He had a natural ability to fix just about anything, especially electronics, and was always the person others turned to for answers. He traveled often for work, experienced much of the world, and developed a love for good food and new places along the way.
He carried himself with confidence, had a strong will, and a stubborn streak that those close to him knew well and loved him for.
To many, he was simply “Ron.” But to those who mattered most, his greatest pride and joy was being “Grandpa Ron.” His love for his four granddaughters—Destiny, Samantha, Stevie, and Gabrielle—was unmatched, and they were the light of his life.
Ron will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who knew him.
Services will be held on May 20, 2026, at Queen of Heaven Parish. A Rosary will begin at 9:00 a.m., followed by Mass at 9:30 a.m. Burial will take place at 12:30 p.m. at the Santa Fe National Cemetery.
The family of Ron invites you to join them afterward at 2:00 p.m. at Queen of Heaven Parish Hall for food and refreshments as they share memories and celebrate his life.
