Rodney Alderete, age 78, passed away in his home in Los Lunas, New Mexico, on November 8, 2025.

Born on July 7, 1947, to Alba and Polidor Lucero, Rodney lived a life defined by courage, service, and an unwavering love for his family and country.

A proud Marine and decorated hero of the Vietnam War, Rodney served with extraordinary bravery. He earned two Purple Hearts and a Silver Star—recognitions of valor that he carried with deep pride throughout his life. His sense of duty did not end when he left the battlefield; after returning home, Rodney continued serving others as an L.A. County Parole Officer.

Rodney was also a gifted musician whose voice could light up any room. Whether singing among family and friends or simply for the joy it brought him, his music was a reflection of his generous and spirited heart.

He is survived by his daughter, Jennifer Pio, and his son, Rodney “RJ” Alderete; his brother, Robert Padilla; his sisters, Anna Gabaldon and Susan Milanez; his nephews, Jude Gabaldon and Robbie Padilla; his niece, Lanee Soria; his grandchildren; and his great-nieces and great- nephews. He was loved deeply by all who knew him and will be remembered with profound affection and gratitude.

Rodney’s legacy—of courage, patriotism, compassion, and song—will continue to live on in the hearts of those he leaves behind.
