Roberto “Robert” A. Avila, 87, passed away peacefully into eternal rest on September 19, 2026, surrounded by his loving family.Born on September 5, 1939, in Los Angeles, California, Robert spent his early years alongside his parents, Jose Avila and Guadalupe A. Avila and his siblings— William, Henry, Edmund, Alfred, Lorenzo, Ruben, Rudy, Ofelia, Margie, Yolanda, Gloria, Armida, Louisa and Estella. From September 1956 to August 1959 he proudly enlisted in the United States Army, where he served honorably while stationed in Alaska. Following his military service, he began a long and dedicated career as a professional truck driver with GI Trucking. During these early years, Robert married his beloved first wife, Joanna Avila, and together they were blessed with three children: Guy Avila (Yvone), Yolanda Avila Ulmer (James), and John Avila. He was sadly preceded in death by his first wife Joanna, siblings —William, Henry, Edmund, Alfred, Lorenzo, Ofelia, and Yolanda.Later in life, Robert was blessed to find love once more when he married Vicky Avila. Embracing her six children as his own—John Gomez, Vicky Gomez, Alice Herrera (Juan), Manuel Gomez (Laura), Monica Saavedra (Fabian), and Monico Salgado (Franchesca)—they built a large, close knit family. Together, Robert and Vicky moved to New Mexico, where he worked for the New Mexico Department of Transportation. They created a beautiful life on their ranch, which became the setting for countless happy holiday gatherings and cherished memories with family and friends.Robert is survived by his beloved wife, Vicky, his children, stepchildren, 7 siblings and a remarkable legacy of 35 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren.A strong, devoted man and the steady anchor of his family, Robert taught those around him the values that mattered most: faith, love, and unwavering dedication to family. His wisdom, generous heart, and welcoming presence will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
