In Loving Memory of Robert Henry Christopherson
1964 U.S. Olympic Boxer • Dedicated Social Worker • Devoted Husband, Father, and Brother
Robert Henry Christopherson of Albuquerque, NM, formerly of Minneapolis, MN, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his beloved family, with his favorite hymn playing softly. A man of faith, family, service, and love, Robert's life was a testament to these values.
A proud member of the 1964 United States Olympic Boxing Team, Robert exhibited the discipline and perseverance of an Olympian throughout his life. Beyond his achievements in boxing, his true legacy lay in his compassion and dedication to serving others.
Robert spent his professional life in social work with the Federal Bureau of Indian Affairs, serving Native and Indigenous communities with respect and genuine appreciation. His career took him to the Oglala Sioux Tribe in Pine Ridge, South Dakota; the Red Lake Chippewa Tribe in Red Lake, Minnesota; and the Mescalero Apache community in Dulce, New Mexico. His work was not merely a profession but a calling rooted in his commitment to dignity, understanding, and respect for all people. The relationships he built and the lives he touched through his service remain an enduring part of his legacy.
Above all, Robert cherished his family. He is survived by his beloved wife, Ursula, and his three daughters, Lisa, Cheryl, and Janice, who continue to carry forward his love and memory. He is also survived by his eldest brother, Clifford Jr. Robert was preceded in death by his brothers Jerry, Arden, and Roy, whom he now joins in eternal rest.
As family and friends remember Robert, they will recall not only an Olympian who represented his country but also a husband, father, brother, and compassionate public servant devoted to others. His strength was evident in the ring, but his character was most fully revealed through his love for his family and his dedication to the Native and Indigenous communities he served.
