Pablo Griego

Beloved Husband, Dad, and Grandpa, Pablo Griego, passed away unexpectedly on September 19, 2025, at the age of 87. Pablo was born on August 26th, 1938, in Santa Rosa to the home of Pablo and Bertha Alarid Griego. He attended Santa Rosa schools and was a proud member of the 1955 Santa Rosa Lion football team, which won the very first state championship for Santa Rosa High School.

At an early age, Pablo began working at a local grocery store, which eventually allowed him to become a meat cutter for over 35 years. He was most famous for his homemade carne adovada, and even after retirement, still had people calling to have some made for them. Throughout his lifetime, Pablo enjoyed fishing, arrowhead hunting, playing his guitar, visiting with his neighbors, gardening, yard work, attending his great-grandchildren’s sporting events, and taking them for walks. He enjoyed his daily walks and during those, would find random “treasures” and would gift them to his grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his son Steven, his parents Pablo and Bertha Griego, siblings Charlie, Rosa, Nancy, George, and Annie, and his in-laws Jose and Ramona Ulibarri. Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Sophia, his son Chris, his grandchildren, Steven, Analycia, and Andrew, Jose Pablo, Martina, Maria, Catarina, and Alexia. His great-grandchildren are Johnny, Jayla, Eylicio, Estevan, Kyarah, Esabella, Autumn, Jaykub, and Salem. His siblings Jimmy, Erlinda, and Orlando. Sister-in-laws Julia and Bennie, as well as many nieces and nephews.

Pablo’s celebration of life will be held on Tuesday, September 30th, at St. Rose de Lima Catholic Church, beginning with the Rosary at 10:00 am, with his son Chris reciting. A Funeral Mass will immediately follow, with family friend Sotero A. Sena officiating and Deacon Marvin Marquez assisting. Burial will follow in the family plot at St. Joseph Cemetery.
