Oscar F. Hernandez Sr, of Albuquerque, NM and formerly of Carlsbad, NM, passed away on August 23rd , 2026. He passed surrounded by his loving family on his 77th birthday.

Oscar was born in Mexico City, Mexico to Manuel and Josefina Hernandez and moved to Carlsbad in 1969. He was a hard worker and enjoyed working as a produce manager for Safeway, La Tienda, and Rogge’s grocery stores before retiring from the City of Carlsbad in 2011.

Outside of work, Oscar enjoyed soccer, dancing, spending time outdoors, and hosting cookouts for family, friends, and the neighborhood kids.

He loved the Dallas Cowboys, traveling, and anything Elvis Presley. He especially enjoyed reading and studying history.

Oscar cherished quality time with his grandchildren and took great care of his beloved bird, Figaro.

He was preceded in death by his parents, several brothers and sisters, and his spouse, Sally Hernandez.

He is survived by his children: Valerie Hansen (Justin); Oscar Hernandez Jr. (Chris); Veronica Mora (David); and Patrick Hernandez (Elizabeth); and his grandchildren: Jacob, Jarren, April, and Isabella.

In keeping with Oscar’s wishes, there will be no visitation. Direct cremation has taken place, with services conducted by Trujillo Family Funeral home.
