Marian Gutierrez
November 23, 1942 – October 1, 2026
Marian Gutierrez was born on November 23, 1942, in Albuquerque, New Mexico, the city she
would proudly call home for her entire life. She grew up in Albuquerque, attended Sandia High
School, and was a member of its second graduating class in 1960. She later devoted 20 years of
her life to Albuquerque Public Schools before retiring.
For 66 years, Marian was a faithful parishioner of Our Lady of the Most Holy Rosary Catholic
Church. Her faith was a constant part of her life and a source of strength for her and her family.
Her love for her church, her family, and the people around her was woven into everything she
did.
But above all, Marian was a mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. Her
family was her greatest treasure. She gave her love freely and created a lifetime of memories that
will remain in the hearts of those who were blessed to know her. Her presence, her stories, her
laughter, and the love she gave so generously will be missed more than words can express.
Marian was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Jose A. Gutierrez; her parents, Samuel
Garcia and Isabel Zimmerman; her stepfather, Howard Zimmerman; her brother, Alex Garcia; her
grandson, Larry Gutierrez Jr.; and her great-grandson, Jalen Gutierrez.
She leaves behind her children, Rita Chavez and her husband, Jerry; Larry Gutierrez; and
Michael Gutierrez and his wife, Farley; and her sister, Diana Scanlan.
Her love continues through her eight grandchildren: Angel Gutierrez; Cherie Urban and her
husband, Marko; Joshua Gutierrez and his wife, Emily; Caiden Gutierrez; Ian Gutierrez; Dustin
Gutierrez; Cannon Gutierrez; and Amaya Urban. She is also survived by nine great-
grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. Through each of them, a piece of Marian will
continue to live on.
Marian passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loved ones, on the morning of October 1,
2026. It was a day that held a very special meaning. October 1st would have been Marian and
Jose’s 66th wedding anniversary.
Perhaps there is no more beautiful way to think of her final day than this. After 66 years of
marriage, Jose came for his bride on their anniversary.
Their love began a lifetime ago, and in the end, it brought them together again.
Marian leaves behind a family who will miss her deeply, but who will also carry her with
them—in their memories, in their stories, in their faith, and in the generations, she helped shape.
Though her place at family gatherings will never be the same, her love will remain a part of them
forever.
