Maria Virginia Martinez (Virginia)

June 27th 1943 – September 27th 2026

Celebrating the Life of Virginia Virginia, age 83, of Albuquerque NM, peacefully passed away on Sunday September 27th with her family. Born on Sunday June 27th 1943 in Pena Blanca, Virginia was the beloved daughter of Petrita Gallegos (Leyba) and Patricio Gallegos.

A Life of Dedication and Spirit Virginia graduated from Valley High School in 1961 and went on to a successful career as a Manager at the University of New Mexico Bookstore. She spent 25 years working with students, faculty and visiting dignitaries. She worked each year to provide all the graduating seniors, staff and speakers such as Governor Richardson, and many more, with Cap and Gown. During her tenure, from the eighties to 2005, she was a leader of the design team that created many LOBO logos including those for UNM sports teams, clothing and merchandise, which inspired dignity and the “can do” spirit that pervaded throughout the student body and all those associated with the University. Although she never attended college as a student, Virginia was a University of New Mexico Lobo through and through. Everyone’s a Lobo, Woof! Woof! Woof! Lux Hominum Vita

Beyond her career Virginia was a dedicated mother to her special needs and loving son Bryan. She also enjoyed reading, playing with her dog Elmo and games of chance.

Family and Legacy Virginia is survived by: Patrick and Bryan, her sons.
