It is with great sadness the family of Marco Nunez announces that he passed from this earth on Saturday, January 3, 2026, at the young age of 52. While we know he is in the arms of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, his passing leaves a void in the lives of so many.
Marco was born on February 1, 1973 in Albuquerque, to Margy Hernandez (Anthony) and David Nunez (Anna). He grew up in Albuquerque, attended San Felipe de Neri Catholic School, West Mesa & Highland High Schools. He maintained a close relationship with many of his classmates, especially his best friend since elementary school, Roy Yates. Marco continued his education studying music & business with Randy Castillo (Ozzy Osborne, Motley Crue) in Los Angeles, California.
Marco was a great drummer! He played, toured, recorded & worked with so many talented individuals & groups including, Bizzy Thowed (The Weekend), Tim McGraw, Money B/Digital Underground, Romeo Johnson, Adopt The Arts Foundation, The After After Party with Steven Michael Quesada (NBC), AB, El Chicano, Mystikal, Macy Gray, En Vogue, Cassandra Batie (Andra Day), Baby Bash & Frankie J, The Tough, hONEyhoUSe, Hillary Smith, & David Nunez (his Pops) to name a few. He and his business partner & “Brother from another mother”, Mike Cee Carpenter started, produced & played in the James Douglas Show (JDS) Band for more than a decade. They toured the country and made friends/fans too numerous to count. Marco was also proud to be endorsed by many National & International Brands over the years.
During the pandemic Marco came to his Mothers side and helped her keep the family business (La Mexicana Tortilla Company) prospering and continued managing & growing it with her and his daughter Sara, until his death. Marco was also the founder of Flor de las Flores Dispensary. He was so very proud that both businesses were in Barelas, the downtown neighborhood where he grew up.
Marco touched many lives with his love, compassion, empathy and his ability to approach life head on. Even though his plate was always full, he would drop everything to help anyone in need. He truly lived life to the fullest.
