December 6, 1957 — January 4, 2026

Louie P. Gallegos Jr.

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Louie P. Gallegos Jr. at age 68 on Sunday, January 4, 2026, after a long fought battle with Cancer. He was born December 6, 1957, in Albuquerque, NM to the late Louie Sr. & Mabel Gallegos. He is survived by his wife Debi of 48 years, his children Angela & Robert Proa, Nicole & Nick Quintana, 6 grandchildren Ronald, Nicholas, Megan, Janelle, Isabel, Jocelyn, his siblings Eva (Shelden deceased), Andrew & Sherry, Celeste & Brian, Sam & Katrina, Teresa, Ben & Lela, Mary & Marty, and many nephews & nieces.

Louie wore many hats from a Uranium Minor to Mechanic, but the hat that seemed to capture us all was his sense of humor. From a quick witted joke to a silly made up song to a facial expression that made you smile. In addition to his jokes, we had the pleasure of watching his loving gaze at his children and grandchildren, from that you knew he had a soft spot in his heart for them. When he wasn’t cracking a joke or spending time with his family, he was submerged into sports. Anything from basketball, golf, even poker, but his favorite was football, his Dallas Cowboys more specifically. Once you got him going with any updates about the Cowboys, his attention was all yours. If you go back on Dallas Cowboy coverage you may get to see him in the stands at the Thanksgiving game playing the Vikings or Super Bowl XXX beating Pittsburgh.

His many interests included going hunting & fishing, playing horseshoes, darts & pool, DIY projects with his wife, and taking care of his garden, raising Mulberry tress, roses, vegetables & hummingbirds. It was here that he enjoyed the slow down Nature brings. One of his goals while being out on the hunt was to find a Sasquatch or an Alien (“his cousins”). He played baseball in his adult years with the Smuggler Blues making many friends. His greatest game of all was playing Aggravation. If you ever had the opportunity to play him a game, then you know the wrath of the “Green Gobbler,” that was always on the hunt to send others players back home instead of working to win the game. There are stories of people, ahem his brother, getting so frustrated with the Green Gobbler that he would close the game board.

If you have any memories of Louie, the family invites you to post them on his Obituary Board. Also, if you intended to send flowers, the family kindly asks that you would instead make a donation to https://nmcancercenter.org/foundation/giving-thanks/ in memory of Louie P. Gallegos Jr. We thank and love you all!
