Lorenzo J. Martinez (March 27, 1958 - January 3, 2026)

Lorenzo J. Martinez, 67, of Montezuma, NM, passed away on Saturday, January 3, 2026, at his sister’s home in Albuquerque, NM, following a long, courageous battle with cancer. He was born on March 27, 1958, in Dexter, NM, to the late Gilbert and Margaret Martinez. 

Lorenzo honorably served in the United States Air Force from 1976 to 1981. Following his military service, he worked as an incredibly talented cabinet and furniture maker alongside his father, Gilbert, at the family-owned business, Martinez Custom Cabinets, in Los Vigiles, NM. Lorenzo accepted nothing short of perfection and, as such, he took great pride in everything he crafted.

 In more recent years, Lorenzo served as a caregiver in Las Vegas, New Mexico, providing compassionate care to multiple sick and elderly residents. In the rare time he wasn’t helping others, he enjoyed the companionship of his pets, collecting Native American jewelry and art, and spending time with his close friends. 

Lorenzo was preceded in death by his parents, Gilbert and Margaret Martinez. He is survived by his sister, Evelyn Marquez; his niece and nephew, Melissa Marquez (Briana) and Ralph Marquez (Wesley), all of Albuquerque; his brother, Michael Martinez of Los Vigiles; his niece and nephew, Candace Brecheisen (David) of Scottsdale, AZ, and Steven Martinez of Los Angeles, CA; his dear friends Jackie Alarid and Liz Garcia - as well as his many other loving family members and friends in the Las Vegas community - especially those at the First Presbyterian Church. 

Cremation has taken place, and a private funeral service will follow at a later date.
