Joseph (Joey) Armendariz Florez

Joseph A. Florez (Joey) passed away peacefully in his sleep at home, with his mother by his side, on December 31, 2025.Joey was born on November 20, 1957, in Carlsbad, New Mexico, to Joe and Ernestine Florez. 

He lived a life marked by resilience, quiet strength, and perseverance. His life was defined not by hardship, but by the love he gave and the legacy he leaves behind through the generations of his family. Joey enjoyed the simple things in life. He loved fishing, hunting, building model kits, and cheering on the Dallas Cowboys. These passions brought him comfort and joy and were a true reflection of his steady nature.

He is survived by his mother, Ernestine Mora of Albuquerque, New Mexico; his daughter, Jowana Marquez and Husband Robert Marquez of Carlsbad, New Mexico; and his son, Joseph Florez of Bakersfield, California. He also leaves behind his grandchildren, Hunter Barnes and Stormi Ryan; his great-grandchildren, Mac Ryan, Ace Ryan, and Kai Barnes; his sister, Irma Florez-Meyers of Carlsbad, New Mexico; his brother, John Florez of Albuquerque, New Mexico; and many extended family members who will cherish his memory. He was preceded in death by his father, Joe Florez, and his sisters, Jessica Florez-Lieb and Cindy Florez. 

Though his later years were marked by illness and loss, Joey remained a fighter. His journey was not always easy, but his life mattered deeply, and his legacy lives on through his family. The family would like to express heartfelt gratitude to all those who showed Joey compassion and kindness. A memorial service will be held on February 20th, 2026 at San Jose Catholic Church in Carlsbad NM. The Rosary will be at 9:30am and Mass at 10:00am. Following Lunch will be provided at the American Legion at 2311 St. in Carlsbad. Joey will be remembered, missed, and held close in the hearts of all who loved him.
