John Gilbert Casto, age 78, passed away peacefully at home after a lengthy illness on August 3, 2026.

John was born in Akron, Ohio to Herman Lee Casto and Dolores Marie Debolt Casto on January 14, 1948. He graduated from Garfield High School. John served in the US Army in Vietnam and Germany.

He was proud of his service.

He is survived by his wife, Robyn Schlegel, son, Jonathan Casto, grandsons, Abram Fierro and Osiris Casto, sister Wilma Casto Gordon and nephew, Matt Gordon, sister Carol Casto Canterbury and husband Dave, brother Robert Thomas Casto and wife Joanna, and many other nephews, nieces, and cousins.

A memorial service will be held at Trujillo Family Funeral Home in Albuquerque on Thursday, September 10, 2026 at 4pm.
