In Loving Memory of Joe A. Vigil – April 13, 1941 – July 20,2026

Joe Adonise Vigil, 85, of Grants, New Mexico, passed away after a period of illness, surrounded by those who loved him. He left behind a legacy of hard work, determination, and a life well lived.

Born in Wagon Wheel Gap, Colorado to Don Vigil and Mary Martinez, Joe was one of 18 children, growing up in Redcliff, Colorado. From an early age, he learned the values of perseverance, resilience, and the importance of hard work—qualities that remained with him throughout his life.

In 1959, Joe began his career in the mining industry, a profession he loved fiercely. Mining was more than just a job to him; it was a calling. He took tremendous pride in his work and earned the respect of those who worked beside him through his unwavering work ethic and dedication.

Joe had a gift for building and fixing just about anything. If something was broken, he could usually find a way to make it work again. His hands were rarely still, and his craftsmanship reflected the pride he took in everything he did.

When he wasn’t working or building, Joe could often be found at a casino enjoying one of his favorite pastimes—playing poker. He loved the excitement of the game and the strategy. Whether he won or lost, he enjoyed every hand that was dealt.

Those who knew Joe will forever remember one of his favorite expressions: “The deal is…” Whether he was sharing advice, telling a story, or simply making conversation, those words became his signature. More often than not, they were followed by wisdom, honesty, and a perspective that only Joe could offer.

Joe will be remembered for his strength, his skilled hands, his unwavering dedication to his work, and his ability to leave a lasting impression on everyone he met. His life was built on integrity, determination, and a willingness to help others, and those qualities will continue to inspire all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Though he is no longer with us, Joe’s stories, laughter, wisdom, and the lessons he shared will live on. His memory remains a lasting reminder that a life measured by hard work, kindness, and authenticity is a life well lived.

He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
