Joe Montoya

December 18, 1964 — December 6, 2023

We are sad to announce the passing of Joe Montoya, who went to be with his Lord and Savior on December 6, 2023, at the age of 58, after battling sickness for over a year. He was surrounded by his loved ones in the final weeks of his life. Joe celebrated his 59th birthday in Heaven shortly after passing. He was a beloved son, brother, father, cousin, and uncle who will be missed deeply by his friends and family.

Joe had a passion for mountain bike riding, building bicycles, and creating memories with his family members. He was an HVAC technician and a skilled carpenter. Joe was born in Inglewood, California, where he spent his childhood and tween years surfboarding and spending his days on the beach. As a young teenager, he was forced by his parents to move to Albuquerque, New Mexico, where he then graduated from Rio Grande High School. Shortly after graduation, Joe moved back to California where he went to carpentry school. As his own family began to grow, he moved back to Albuquerque, New Mexico to raise his children.

He is preceded in death and welcomed into eternal happiness by his father, Arsenio; sister, Lisa; and brother, Fernando. He is survived by his mother, Lupe; his 5 children, Joseph, Adam, Alexandria, Ava, and Caleb; siblings Mary Frances (Don), John, Patrick (Rebecca), and David.

Joe’s legacy will forever be engraved in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.

Please come celebrate his life with us on Thursday, January 11. Rosary and mass will be held at Queen of Heaven at 9:30am, followed by the funeral services at Sunset Memorial Park.
