Jesus “Chuy” Hernandez, born and raised in Albuquerque, New Mexico, and a proud Class of 2009 graduate of Rio Grande High School, passed away unexpectedly on May 12, 2026. Chuy was born on March 14, 1991, to Sophie Gutierrez and Jose Hernandez.

Chuy is survived by his beloved son, Elijah Hernandez; his father, Jose Hernandez and wife Santana; his mother, Sophie Gutierrez and husband Larry; his siblings Jose, Justice, Santiago, Robert “Bobby,” Nevaeh, Heaven, and Lawrence; his grandparents, Abuelito and Abuelita Hernandez; his goddaughter, Kylia Garcia; and many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends who loved him dearly.

He was preceded in death by the love of his life, Nichole; his brother Jose; Grandma Agnes; Grandpa Robert; Auntie Irma; Uncle Bobby; his great-grandparents; and his godparents, Sofia and Polito Herrera.

Chuy was a man of God, whose faith guided his life and the way he loved and cared for those around him. He was known for his kindness, his loyalty, and his ability to offer a listening ear without judgment. He played football and wrestled for Rio Grande High School, where he showed dedication, strength, and heart. Chuy also served as a coach and fighter with Jackson Wink MMA, where he continued to share his passion, discipline, and encouragement with others.

We will continue to watch over Elijah from here. Chuy, you and Nichole, wrap your wings around him and protect him from the heavens above, watching over him and guiding him always with your love. Though you are no longer with us in person, your presence will forever live on through him, and we will honor your memory by ensuring he is surrounded with love, support, and guidance in your absence.

Services for Jesus “Chuy” Hernandez will be held on Monday, June 8, 2026. A viewing will take place from 10:15 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at New Beginnings Church, located at 4770 Montgomery Blvd. NE, Albuquerque, NM 87109, with a Celebration of Life to follow immediately after. A reception will follow the services.
