On January 13th, 2026, at 1:30 AM, Janet M. Padilla passed away peacefully,
surrounded by her family and loved ones who held her close as she took her final
breath.
Janet was born on September 17th, 1965, in Albuquerque, NM, to her mother, Precilla
Whiting. She lived a life filled with adventure, music, and laughter, always seeking joy
wherever she went. Janet knew exactly who she was and never wavered from it. She
was honest, direct, and wonderfully blunt, and those who loved her always knew they
could count on her for the truth.
She will be remembered not only as a devoted wife, mother, sister, daughter, and
grandmother, but as Janet, the woman with the loud, raspy voice, the fierce spirit, and
the strength to stand her ground in any situation. She was bold, vibrant, and unafraid,
and even in her final hours, she fought with every ounce of her strength.
Janet is preceded in death by her sisters, Leanne Turrietta and Katrina Whiting; her
grandparents, Isidro and Lola Lopez; her aunts Mary, Emma, Josie, Angie, Chunkie
(Maria), and Peggy; and her mother and fatherinlaw, Rita and Sixto Padilla.
Her memory will live on through her husband, Christopher (BooBoo) Padilla; her
children, Derrek and his wife Sara Padilla, Marlene Padilla, and Danielle Padilla and her
husband Thomas Downs; and her grandchildren, Nevaeh Torrez, Guadalupe Gonzales,
Dominic Padilla, Derrek Padilla Jr., Aria Padilla (on the way), and Sean Downs. She is
also survived by her mother, Precilla Whiting, and her sisters, Linda Duran, Kim
Chavez, DeAnne (DeeDee) Monge, and Loretta Whiting.
Janet will be cremated, and a rosary and funeral service will be held at St. Francis
Xavier Catholic Church once her remains are returned. Service details will be shared at
a later time.
Prayer of Comfort: Lord, Janet has left this earthly home and those who mourn her
absence. Grant that we may hold her memory close, not in bitterness for what we have
lost nor in regret for the past, but in hope for the eternal kingdom where we will be
reunited again. We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen.
Arrangements are entrusted to Trujillo Family Funeral Home.
