Hattie Mae
Simmons
February 26, 1939 – April 16, 2026
Hattie Mae Simmons
The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want.
He maketh me to lie down in green pastures:
He leadeth me beside the still waters.
He restoreth my soul:
He leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name’s sake.
Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death I will fear no evil:
for thou art with me; Thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.
Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies:
Thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over.
Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life:
and I will dwell in the house of the Lord for ever. Psalm 23 KJV
On Thursday, April 16, 2026, during the early morning hours, in her 87th year, Hattie Mae Simmons transitioned from this life into the loving arms of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
Hattie was born on February 26,1939 in Somerville,Tennessee. She was the beloved daughter of Winston Minor and Hortense Jackson. Hattie was blessed with two brothers, who cherished her dearly. Both Edward Seymour and Thomas Ray Jackson of Tennessee have preceded her in death.
Hattie was a proud graduate of County High School in Fayette County, Tennessee and Tennessee State University. Early in her career, she worked as an accountant, demonstrating precision, diligence, and a sharp mind. She later served faithfully in several respected institutions, including the Metro Housing Authority, and MeHarry Hubbard Hospital, where she worked in the Business Department.
She was a faithful and devoted servant of the Lord at Mt. Bethel Missionary Baptist Church in Nashville, Tennessee, for more than 30 years. There she served with excellence and humility - as a Sunday School Teacher, a member of the Mother’s Board, and the Pastor’s Secretary.
In November of 2018, Sis. Hattie later relocated to Albuquerque, New Mexico with her daughters. During the pandemic, she joined Fellowship Missionary Baptist Church, under the leadership of Pastor Dennis G. Dunn, where she attended faithfully on line, and became a cherished part of the Seasoned Saints Ministry. Her faith has been her anchor, with her favorite scripture being the beloved 23rd Psalm, which she read daily.
Granny and Hattie Mae, as she was affectionately called, was a woman of grace, warmth, and quiet strength. She enjoyed the simple pleasures in life that brought her joy and peace. Her most enjoyable moments were working in her garden, assembling puzzles, reading the Bible, and even dabbling in computer games. She was known as a social butterfly, yet she carried a quiet spirit. She was easy‐going, nurturing, patient, and delightfully feisty when the moment called for it! Her presence made rooms brighter, and her wisdom was strength to those she loved. As a devoted mother, Hattie lovingly raised five children - Rodney Darnell Simmons (deceased); Elgin Keith (Juanita) Simmons of Clifton, Illinois; Tracey Simmons and LaRae Sawyers of Albuquerque, New Mexico; and D’Shaun Thompson of Orlando, Florida.
Hatties’ legacy continues through her grandchildren - Alethia Simmons, Kayla Simmons, Cedric Beene (Jessica), Nakesha Simmons, Darien Thompson, Ahriel Thompson, Kyrell Thompson and Charles Marshall Holt. Great‐grandchildren - My’Keyshia Broyles and Jer’Riyah Smith; niece - Jacqueline Jackson; nephew - Thomas Jackson Jr.; and a beloved family friend Verna Rainey.
Hattie Mae Simmons lived a life marked by faith in God, family, service, and love.
