Harold "Rick" Torres

November 2 nd , 1955 – August 3 rd , 2025

Albuquerque, New Mexico, on August 3 rd , 2025, surrounded by his family and loved ones at the age of

69.

Rick proudly served his country as a Vietnam veteran and was known for his sarcasm, quick wit, and

unapologetically blunt style. A jokester to the end, he never missed a chance to tease, challenge, or speak

his mind. He never sugarcoated anything, but behind the jokes and tough exterior was someone who

deeply cared for his family and friends.

He is survived by his wife, Sylvia Torres, and by his former wife, Victoria McIntyre, with whom he

shared three daughters: Joanne McCloud, Marie (Diego) Gonzales, and Natalie (Daniel) Vargas. He is

also survived by his son, Jason (Jennifer) Bendgen, and his daughter with Sylvia, Kimberly (Jose) Torres.

He is also survived by his siblings: Raymond Pargas, Julie Griego, Lena (Khasru) Ahmed, Susan

Robinson, David Standefer, Brian Standefer, Deanna Aragon, and Victor (Lesita) Torres; his sister-in-law,

Mona Torres; and his brother-in-law, Jimmy (Lilia) Romero. Rick was a proud grandfather and great-

grandfather to 15 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren, all of whom brought him immense joy. He

also leaves behind many nieces and nephews who will remember his presence.

Rick was preceded in death by his mother, Anna Maria Zimmerly; his father, Albert Zimmerly; his

brothers, Albert Zimmerly Jr. and Freddy Torres; his brother-in-law, Ricardo “Chick” Griego, and his

grandson, Jaden McCloud.

Rick’s love for family, storytelling, and laughter will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.

A Funeral Mass and Rosary will be held on [Date] at [Time] at San Miguel Church in Socorro, New

Mexico. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Disabled American Veterans (dav.org).

The family would like to thank the care teams at the Raymond G. Murphy VA Medical Center for the

compassionate care and support they provided to Rick during his time in the hospital.
