Guadalupe “Lupe” Lovato, a lifelong resident of Albuquerque, New Mexico, passed away peacefully on June 12, 2026, at the age of 86. She was preceded in death by her parents Fidel and Antonia Garcia.
Born on January 21, 1940, Lupe was a proud graduate of Valley High School, Class of 1959. She devoted her life to her Catholic faith, her family, and her home. A loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend, she will be remembered for her unwavering faith, kind heart, gentle spirit, and the love she shared with everyone around her.
On March 3, 1962, Lupe married the love of her life, James Lovato. Together they built a beautiful life centered on faith and family and shared 56 years of marriage until James’s passing in October 2018.
Lupe was blessed with seven children, who were the pride and joy of her life: Dianna Lovato; James Lovato, Jr. and wife Deanna; Theresa Jackson; Charles Lovato and Samantha Cunningham; Patrick Lovato and wife Joanna; Michael Lovato and wife Madeline; and Debbie Mares and husband Antonio.
She leaves behind a cherished legacy through her grandchildren and great-grandchildren: Emilio Lovato; Tianna Lovato and husband Ricardo; James Nicholas Lovato and wife Corey; Eli Lovato and wife Darlene and their children Elise and Fiancé Mason, Bree, and Estevan; Samuel Lovato and wife Prinsilla and their children Abraham and Adrian; Alyssa Jackson; Stephen Jackson and wife Daisy and their children Emma and Luke; Jesse Lovato and wife Jeanal and their children Ben, Charlie, Oliver, and Jesse Junior; Christianna and her daughter Anastasia; Avery; Charley; John Lovato II and Sophia Lovato; Antonio and fiancée Michelle; Jacob Lovato; Jazzmyn Lovato; Destiny Mares; and Alexandria and fiancé Aaron and their children Naia Dimas and Catalina Dimas.
She is also survived by her beloved siblings: Herman Garcia, Gabriella Nieto, Larry Garcia, Rudy Garcia, Junie Garcia, James Garcia, David Garcia, and Margo Yurgae.
Lupe’s greatest joy was her family. She was happiest when surrounded by her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, sharing meals, stories, laughter, and traditions that will continue for generations. Her faith guided her throughout her life, and she served as a quiet example of love, compassion, and devotion.
Though she will be deeply missed, her family finds comfort in knowing she has been reunited with her beloved husband James and is now at peace in the presence of the Lord she faithfully served.
Lupe’s memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.

A Rosary will be held at 10:00 a.m., followed by a Funeral Mass from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. on Monday, June 22 at St. Thomas Aquinas Church, 1502 Sara Rd. SE, Rio Rancho, NM 87124.Burial will follow at 12:30 p.m. at Fairview Memorial Park.
