Gene Martinez

July 12, 1939 — December 24, 2022

Gene (Cookie) Martinez, 83:   Our Beloved Uncle joined the Lord on December 24, 2022.   He is survived by his brothers, Jim Martinez (Lydia Martinez) and Ray Martinez (Therese Martinez); nieces and nephews, Phil Martinez, Charles Martinez, Richard Martinez, Louise Martinez, Vince Martinez, Arlene Baca, Christine Martinez, Michael Martinez, Lydia Martinez and Veronica Martinez and many great nieces and nephews; and predeceased by his father Ben Martinez, mother Iola Burch and brother Bob Martinez.

Gene was a warrior for God and spread the gospel every chance he had and won many souls for his Lord and savior Jesus Christ.   He could talk for hours about how great our God is and what God has in store for us.   We can only imagine the joy he is experiencing in the presence of our Dear Lord.  “Welcome home my good and faithful servant.” Amazing to think about!

He was an avid guitar player and a talented artist.  He was admired for his curly hair and his sense of humor.  He also wrote many books about God’s word.   He loved animals throughout his life and his cats were his daily joy.  In his younger years he was in the Air Force, which helped shape his bold and courageous personality throughout his life.

He would always say: Don’t ever let a day go by without God in your life.   Be prayerful and reach out to others to share his word.  Don’t miss an opportunity to witness to someone and let them know that there is nothing more important than your eternity.   John 3:16 For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.

A remembrance service will be held, Saturday, March 4th from 1:15 to 3:15 at the Genoveva Chavez Center located at 3221 Rodeo Rd., Santa Fe, NM 87507. Placement of Gene’s cremains will take place with Military Honors on Monday, March 13, 2023 , 1PM at the Santa Fe National Cemetery, 501 N. Guadalupe St, Santa Fe, NM 87501.   Should anyone have any questions, please call Jim Martinez @505-470-0435.
