FRANK LOYA, JR.
August 8, 1955 - July 16, 2025
Frank Loya, Jr. entered into rest on Wednesday, July 16, 2025. Born in El Paso, Frank was one of 5 children of Frank B. and Concepcion "Connie" Loya. He had a heart as big as the state of Texas itself. In a moment that would quietly change history, the Loya family became the first Hispanic family in their neighborhood - thanks to a simple misunderstanding that Frank always believed was guided by God's hand.
Frank graduated from Eastwood High School in 1973. After high school, Frank worked for El Paso Natural Gas and later JCPenney before leaving West Texas to attend the University of Texas at Austin. There, he met friends Dahlia, Diana, and Virginia and they became the Four Amigos. He studied Interior Design and quickly became known for his remarkable eye and natural ability to elevate any space to reflect both personality and environment. His talent led him to a position with Best Western, where he designed rooms for the hotel chain. After returning to Austin, Frank worked for the law firm TCG Administrators, where he dedicated 25 years of service before moving to New Mexico, where he spent the final years of his life.
Frank was truly one of a kind. There was never a dull moment around him - he always arrived smiling, ready to laugh, and partake in good conversation. At times, he found things so amusing that he had to pull over while driving just to regain his composure. A true Longhorn at heart, Frank bled Burnt Orange through and through. He proudly hosted Longhorn Game Day parties at his home, where every score was celebrated with a shot and a joyful shout of “Woo hoo!” He loved his friends deeply, each one holding a special place in his heart. Frank had a lifelong love of hot air balloons and was thrilled to finally take a balloon ride just south of Austin, a gift from his beloved Longhorn group. He attended the Albuquerque International Balloon Festival in the Autumn many times throughout his life, delighting in the beauty and wonder of it all. Frank also would get so immersed in his television that he would talk to it as if it were a friend - though he had besties all over the United States. Christmas was his favorite holiday and even dressed up as Santa Claus a time or two. Even though he loved Christmastime the most, he never missed fireworks on the Fourth of July. It was a must and he would often skip other invites to go check out the fireworks, and during those moments, Frank transformed into a joyful little boy. His spirit was youthful, his kindness boundless.
Frank's ashes were spread by family and friends across the mountains of Cloudcroft, New Mexico that he loved so much. Frank is survived by his parents, Frank and Connie Loya; a brother, John Christopher "Chris"; a sister, Martha Elizabeth (Rene); nephews Adam Flores, Erik Flores (Brandie), Franco (Vanessa); a niece Jenene Flores (Naz); six great nieces and nephews; and the charming, lively Longhorn group who was family to him. He is preceded in death by his brothers Charles "Charlie" Anthony and Andrew "Andy" Joseph Loya.
