Frances "Potchie" Mazon

August 18, 1949 — October 24, 2023

Frances "Potchie" Mazon, a beloved wife, mother, and grandmother, passed away on October 24, 2023 in Gallup, NM. Born as Frances Rose Sanchez on August 18, 1949 in Albuquerque, NM, Potchie's life was a beautiful tapestry of love, devotion, and community impact.

Potchie was a graduate of Cathedral High School in the year 1969. Throughout her career, she held various jobs that showcased her dedication to service and her unwavering commitment to making a difference in the lives of others. From being a secretary at the Gallup Police Department and working at The District Attorney's Office to serving as a teacher's aid at Washington Elementary, Potchie poured her heart into each role she took on.

However, it was during her time as the Apartment Manager at Cliffside Apartments that Potchie truly felt a deep sense of fulfillment. For over ten years, she diligently worked to provide housing for countless families in her community. Potchie's warm smile and caring demeanor offered solace and comfort to those seeking a place they could call home.

When her husband fell ill, Potchie made the selfless decision to step away from her career to care for him. Her unwavering dedication to family exemplified her loving nature and compassionate spirit.

Potchie was cherished not only as an empathetic caretaker but also as an adoring grandmother. She treasured spending time with her grandchildren above all else. Together they delved into arts and crafts, creating countless masterpieces that remain as cherished memories today.

In her leisure hours, Potchie found solace in playing Bunco—a beloved dice game that brought much joy and laughter into her life. Gathering twice a month with friends for lighthearted competition was a tradition she cherished dearly before COVID changed everything.

The color peach adorned Potchie's world with beauty and serenity. It was a hue that reflected her gentle and kind-hearted nature. Another passion she held close to her heart was birdwatching. Potchie's love for birds was evident as she would leave seeds outside, bringing the enchanting melodies of feathered friends into her life.

Potchie's memory will forever live on in the hearts of those she leaves behind. She is survived by her daughter, Darby Woods, and son, Richard Mazon. Her loving presence will be missed by her granddaughters, Christina Gonzalez and Alicia Gonzalez, as well as her grandson, Augustine Gonzalez.

She is also survived by her sisters Mary "Chela" Long and Margaret "Rootsy" Galaviz, and brother Alfonso "Dee Dee Boy" Sanchez. Though she has left this world, Potchie joins her husband Augustine "Tino" Mazon, parents Alfonso and Frances Sanchez, and brother Gerard "Cowboy" Sanchez in eternal peace.

Potchie's legacy is one of love, selflessness, and unwavering devotion to family and community. Her impact on the lives she touched will continue to resonate for generations to come. As we bid farewell to a remarkable woman who brightened the world with her presence, let us cherish the memories we shared with Potchie Mazon—a truly extraordinary soul.

She will be missed by many!
