Esther Pacheco Martinez

July 31, 1944 — April 6, 2024

Esther Pacheco Martinez was born in Silver City, New Mexico on July 31, 1944 to Roman and Donelia Martinez. She grew up in Chimayo, New Mexico and spent most of her life in Albuquerque where she worked for the University of New Mexico for 25 years. Esther enjoyed traveling, including trips to visit her sister Deborah and Niece Simona in Mexico City, Puerto Rico, and Florida. A highlight of her travels was a pilgrimage to the Holy Land. Esther was characterized by her Christian faith and strong connection to biblical texts. She memorized many passages of scripture and was especially fond of the Psalms. Throughout her home, one could find hand written scriptural passages and notes. Prayer and scripture provided her with solace and encouragement and strengthened her faith. She died on April 6th , 2024 and was preceded in death by her parents, sisters Florence, Delia, Carolina, and is survived by her son Roger Valdez, brothers, Roman Martinez Jr., Josue Martinez, Bond Martinez, Matthew Martinez, and sister Deborah Martinez Babb and numerous nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held at Eastern Hills Baptist Church, 3100 Morris St NE in Albuquerque on Wednesday, April 10 at 11 AM. Interment will be at the Assemblies of God Cemetery Camino Merced, Co Rd 87 in Chimayo where there will be a brief graveside commendation.
