In Loving Memory of Ernest M. Saavedra Sr. “Punkie”
July 22, 1955 – October 17, 2026
Ernest M. Saavedra Sr., lovingly known as “Punkie” to his family, was a beloved father, grandfather, brother, uncle, godfather, and friend. A lifelong resident of the South Valley, Ernest was proud of his roots and attended Rio Grande High School.
Ernest was a hardworking man who dedicated more than 30 years of his life to Thomas & Betts (Elastimold). He was known for his strong work ethic and his dedication to providing for his family.
Outside of work, Ernest enjoyed the simple pleasures of life. He loved spending time outdoors working in his yard, going camping, and riding his motorcycle. He also enjoyed spending time with his good friends, Pete Armijo and Cathy Ortega, creating memories and sharing special moments along the way. Music was another one of his great loves, and he enjoyed all kinds of music and never passed up an opportunity to dance. He was also a loyal Dallas Cowboys fan who proudly supported his team.
To his family, he was more than just Ernest Saavedra Sr. He was “Punkie,” a name filled with love and familiarity. To his nieces and nephews, he was affectionately known as Uncle Punkie, a special part of their lives and family memories.
Ernest is survived by his son, Ernest Saavedra Jr. (Ernie), and his daughter, Corina Vaughn (Saavedra); his daughter-in-law, Regina Saavedra, and son-in-law, Jesse Vaughn; his grandchildren, Marie Rojas, Saul Rojas, Michael Saavedra, and Danielle Saavedra; godfather to Dominic Saavedra. his siblings, Maria Saavedra and partner Cathy Ortega and David Saavedra. He also leaves behind his beloved nieces, nephews, extended family, and many dear friends who will cherish his memory.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ismael and Corina Saavedra, and his sister, Kathy Saavedra.
Ernest’s life was one of hard work, family, and enjoying the things that brought him happiness. Though he will be deeply missed, the memories he created, the love he shared, and the legacy he leaves with his family will live on. He will forever be remembered as Punkie — a beloved father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend whose place in the hearts of those who loved him will never be forgotten.
Rest in peace, Punkie. You will be loved and missed always.
