In Loving Memory of Ernest Anthony Bernal February 12, 1947 – October 13, 2026

Ernest Anthony Bernal, a cherished father, son, uncle, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend, passed away on Tuesday, October 13, 2026. Ernest served honorably in the United States Army during the Vietnam War, carrying the pride of his military service throughout his life.

He is survived by his daughter, Louisa (Nelson); granddaughter Vanessa Tafoya; grandsons Nicholas and Jeremy Tafoya; granddaughters Adrianna, Stephanie, Sonia, Leeann, Selena, and Sofia; and great-granddaughter Dakota. He is also survived by his sisters, Veneranda (Bennie) Lopez, Bernice Trujillo, and Tina Martinez (Gilbert); his brother, Leonard Bernal (Rebecca); and many beloved nieces and nephews.

Ernest was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Eva Jane; his sons, Christopher and Lawrence; his father, Leonardo Bernal; his mother, Emma Sedillo; his grandfather, Augustine Sedillo; and his grandmother, Onofre Sedillo. Also preceding him in death were his brother-in-law, Margarito Lopez, who served alongside him in Vietnam, and his brother-in-law, Delbert Trujillo, who shared his love of fishing. Others who preceded him in death include his brother, Lawrence Bernal; his sister, Yvonne Lopez (Placido); and his nephew, David Lopez (Ruby).

Ernest loved the great outdoors, especially Taos and Angel Fire, where he enjoyed camping and fishing. As a devoted Green Bay Packers fan, he loved smoking his favorite pipe filled with black cherry tobacco. These simple pleasures, along with the memories he created with family and friends, are a lasting part of his legacy.

Ernest will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. His memory will live on in the hearts of his family, friends, and everyone whose life he touched.
