Eleanor Vargas Cortez

Age 80, Passed away peacefully in her home on July 3rd, 2023

She was born, Elinor M. Vargas on April 14th, 1943 in Winslow, Arizona.

Baptized in Cheyenne, Wyoming.

Eleanor resided with her beloved family, The Vargas's, in Los Padilla's Albuquerque, New Mexico until 1960-61 when she went with her husband Ramon Cortez. They lived with his Grandma until they started purchasing their own homes. Eleanor lived on Mountain Rd., Osuna Rd., Richmond Rd., and eventually found solace and happiness in her final earthly home at 1917 Five Points starting in 1970.

In mourning Eleanor, are her loving children:

          Daughter Senaida C. and Samuel Gurule.

          Son Gary and Donna P. Cortez

          Son Steven and Amy P. Cortez

          Daughter, Victoria C.  and Gene Pacheco

           Son Chris Cortez Sr. and Beniva Salazar

Eleanor was preceded in death by her beloved husband Ramon (Raymond) A. Cortez (Blackie), her father Frank B. Vargas, her mother Mary M. Vargas, sisters Helen and Angie.

Eleanor's memory lives on in all of us who have had the privilege of knowing her. Her immediate blood relatives include brother Frank and wife Donna Vargas; Robert and sister Clarita Garnand; brother Ernest and Juanita Vargas; sister Diana Vargas and Ruben Gaitan; sister-in-law Becky Anaya and Susie Rodriguez; 

Eleanor's cherished legacy extends to her adored grandchildren: Sam Jr. (God Son), Rachel, Brianna, Lawrence, Samantha, Chris, Marcus, Jeremy, Joshua, Jake, Darian, Damian, Jade, Marissa, Jesse, and Henry.

She was also blessed with numerous great-grandchildren: Andrew, Valentin, Gracie, Kristen, Evan, Janelle, Eli, Helena, Ronin, Ezra, Annette (Jewel), Graciella, Penelope, Amera, Aria and Damian Jr., Ophelia and Rune Cortez.

In addition to her family members mentioned above, Eleanor leaves behind many nieces and nephews and is remembered fondly by her cousins and friends. We would like to honorably mention God-son Joey and God-daughter Adri and Paulie and Melissa for their special place in Eleanor's heart.

A Rosary and Memorial: will take place at Holy Family Church: 562 Atrisco Dr SW Albuquerque, NM on Wednesday, July 12th, 2023 at 9:00 a.m..

Eleanor will be laid to rest with her beloved husband at Mt. Calvary Cemetery at 11 am.

A luncheon will be held at Holy Family Parish Hall following the burial.

"A Celebration of Life" will take place at Eleanor's residence at 1917 Five Points SW.

We want to express our heartfelt gratitude for each and every one of you who have been a part of Eleanor's life and who are here today as we celebrate the profound impact she had on our lives.
