Dr. Elizabeth J. “Lisa” Guerra
Dr. Elizabeth J. Guerra, lovingly known to most as Lisa and to some as Liz, was born on December 18, 1955, in Socorro, New Mexico. She passed away peacefully on February 3, 2026, at the age of 70 in Albuquerque, New Mexico, surrounded by her daughters, daughter-in-law, and grandchildren, after a courageous 10-month battle that reflected her incredible strength and resilience.
Lisa lived a life defined by dedication, perseverance, and a deep love for her family and community.
She devoted her career to education, serving as both a bilingual teacher and school principal. Throughout her years in education, she touched countless lives with her wisdom, patience, and passion for learning. She believed wholeheartedly in the power of education to open doors and inspire confidence, and she carried that belief into every classroom and every life she encountered.
Lisa was known as a loving, hardworking, and strong woman whose presence brought comfort, encouragement, and guidance to everyone around her. She had a special gift for making people feel seen, valued, and supported. Her kindness and strength left a lasting impression on all who knew her.
Outside of her professional life, Lisa found joy in life’s simple pleasures — especially her trips to the casino, where her laughter and vibrant spirit could always be felt. Above all, she treasured her family and cherished every moment spent creating lasting memories with them.
She is survived by her beloved daughters, Alicia Guerra-Felix and Marissa Guerra; her treasured grandchildren, Marco Antonio Felix, Isaias R. Felix, Jose Ruben Reyes, and Luis A. Reyes; daughter-in-law, Jocelyn Gamboa; and her siblings, Rudy and Evie, among several nieces and nephews. Her love will continue to live on through each of them.
Lisa was preceded in death by her husband, Ruben Guerra; her loving parents, Higinio and Luisita Romero; her brothers, Ricky, Andy, Victor Romero , and Johnny Chavez; and her first grandchildren, Angel Guadalupe Felix and Elizabeth Reyes-Guerra, who welcomed her with open arms.
Lisa leaves behind a legacy of resilience, compassion, and unwavering love. She will be deeply missed, forever remembered, and always carried in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, February 28, 2026, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, located at 309 Stover Ave SW, Albuquerque, New Mexico 87102. The Rosary will begin at 9:30 a.m., followed by Mass at 10:00 a.m. A Celebration of Lisa's Life will follow the Funeral Mass in the parish hall located beside the church at 10:30 am. Light desserts and refreshments will be provided. Your presence is more than enough; however, for those who have asked, you are welcome to bring a dish to share if you wish.
“Her strength was inspiring, her love was unconditional, and her memory will be eternal.”
