Dolores Salas

March 5, 1931 — June 16, 2024

Dolores Salas, a beloved mother, grandmother, and devout Jehovah's Witness, passed away peacefully on June 17 2024 at the age of 93. Born on March 5, 1931, in Albuquerque, New Mexico, to Florenio and Annie Maez, Dolores was the firstborn daughter among eight siblings, assuming the role of caretaker with grace and dedication from an early age.

Dolores's life was a testament to selfless love and unwavering faith. Her intrinsic kindness and compassion naturally drew her to Jehovah's Witnesses, where she found a spiritual home. She devoted countless hours to studying scriptures, attending meetings, and participating in ministry work, always offering spiritual support and guidance to those in need. Her home, filled with warmth and hospitality, was a reflection of her deep faith and love for her spiritual family.

As a mother and grandmother, Dolores's love knew no bounds. She raised her children and grandchildren with a nurturing heart, always putting their needs above her own. Whether staying up late to help with homework, cooking favorite meals, or providing a comforting presence, Dolores was a constant source of support and love. Her family was her greatest joy, and she made every effort to stay connected, even as distances separated her from loved ones.

Her passion for caring and teaching extended beyond her family, leading to a 40-year career in early childhood development at St. Mark's Day School and First Congregational Preschool. Through her work, she touched the lives of countless children and their families, leaving a lasting impact through her dedication and compassion.

Dolores was preceded in death by her loving husband of 61 years, Gilbert Salas Sr., and her eldest daughter, Kathleen Salas. She is survived by her two children, Gilbert Salas and Sandra Cahill, who will carry forward her legacy of love and selflessness.

Dolores's naturally strong-willed and tenacious nature was balanced by her husband's patient and supportive presence, creating a harmonious and loving partnership. Her ability to see past people's faults and love them unconditionally became her lasting legacy.

As we remember Dolores Salas, we celebrate a life defined by selfless love, unwavering faith, and a deep commitment to family. Her spirit will continue to inspire and guide us, a shining example of the power of love and dedication. She will be dearly missed but never forgotten, as her legacy lives on in the hearts of those she touched.
