Dolores Maestas passed away peacefully on January 20, 2026, with her beloved family by her side. A lifelong resident of Albuquerque's San Jose neighborhood, Dolores was a cherished pillar of her community and a devoted matriarch to her family.
She was preceded in death by the love of her life, Alfonso Maestas, her parents, and several siblings. Dolores is survived by her daughters, Jeanette Sanchez (Gilbert) and Veronica Maestas-Felmlee (Brian), sisters Dora Garcia, Kinney Sanchez, her brothers Lawrence Sanchez, Ralph Sanchez, Max Sanchez, and Richard (Dickie) Sanchez.
She leaves behind her adoring grandchildren: Antoinette Sanchez, Alicia Hernandez (Mike), Joseph Sanchez (Leeann), and Brianna Felmlee (Jose); as well as her precious great-grandchildren: Isabella Kulinna, Mikey Hernandez and Mia Hernandez.
Being the oldest child, Dolores had to quit school to care for her eight siblings while her father was away in the military and her mother was hospitalized. This early responsibility shaped her into the strong, selfless woman she became.
Dolores was a very hard worker, starting at the age of 15 and working until age 81, having to stop due to the COVID pandemic.
She was deeply involved in her church, having worked there for over 30 years. During this time, she taught Sunday school, served as a Eucharistic minister, was an active member of St. Vincent DePaul, the Altar Rosary Society, Sacred Heart Society, and Legion of Mary.
She enjoyed going to the casino, eating out, socializing, and spending time with her family during their Sunday dinners.
Dolores will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and all who knew her. Her warmth, strength, and love will forever remain in the hearts of those she touched.
Funeral Services for Dolores will take place on Friday, January 30, 2026 with the Rosary beginning at 9:00 AM at San Jose Catholic Church. The Funeral Mass will follow at 9:30 am. Interment will be held at Mount Calvary Cemetery immediately following the Mass. To honor Dolores's wishes, there will be no reception taking place.
