David Crockett Hendrix

October 17, 1943 — June 9, 2024

David Crockett Hendrix, 80, of Albuquerque, NM, went home to Heaven on June 9th 2024. He was born in Magdelena, NM, in 1943 to Robert and Johnnie Ruth Hendrix. Dave is survived by his sisters Sue Peters (Jim, deceased) and Ginger Smith (Wayne) and his brother Steve (Bobbi). His brother, Mike (Patty) and his sister, Billie were surely the first to greet him as he entered Paradise. He also loved his Perdue step family greatly. Their families were among the original homesteaders in the Pietown/Tres Lagunas area. Dave lived much of his younger life in Socorro and Chama, NM and graduated from Chama High School in 1962. He married the love of his life and best friend, Janelle (Jan) Ferguson, in November of 1964, and together they enjoyed nearly 60 years of marriage. They had three sons: Terry, Brian (Laura) and Travis (Kristie). Their youngest son Travis lost his battle with cancer three weeks prior to Dave’s passing. Dave loved people. He never knew a stranger, whether at Del Norte Baptist Church where he worshipped for nearly 40 years, or at work where he excelled as a construction superintendent/foreman and safety inspector. He loved sports, reading, and talking politics. He possessed a great sense of humor. He would often jokingly end a conversation with “So glad you got to see me today,” and he humbly acknowledged that everyone was entitled to his opinion! He especially adored his seven grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren. His greatest passion, however, was proclaiming the love of Jesus to everyone he encountered. What joy he is now experiencing at the feet of his Savior! A Celebration of Life Service will be held at Del Norte Baptist Church on Saturday, June 29 at 11:00 AM. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to New Mexico Cancer Center.

“To live is Christ, to die is gain.” Philippians 1:21
