Cruzario Ricardo Alderete
December 8, 2001 – July 18, 2025
On July 18, 2025, our hearts broke as we said goodbye to Cruzario Ricardo Alderete, known to so many as Smooth Cruz, Cruz the Barber or simply just “Cruz”. He was just 23 years old, but in that time, he left a mark that will never fade.
Cruz was born in Albuquerque, New Mexico, on December 8, 2001, and from the beginning, he radiated warmth, love, and loyalty. With the sweetest eyes and a smile that could light up a room, Cruz made everyone around him feel seen, safe, and loved. He gave the best hugs, always said “I love you,” and truly meant it.
Cruz was a loving son, proud father, cherished grandson, devoted brother, loyal cousin, caring nephew, and true friend. He gave his whole heart to his people and made sure they knew they mattered. He was the kind of person who showed up, every time, with love, laughter, and his signature presence.
He was a proud big brother to Gea and Loyal, a passionate 49ers fan, and a gifted barber who found his calling in his craft. Cruz wasn’t just dreaming of opening a barbershop, he was working hard to make it happen. Alongside his Uncle Eric, they were just weeks away from opening the shop. It was something for him to take pride in.
But more than anything, Cruz was a father, and that was the role he cherished most. His son, Azariah Adam Geovanni Alderete, was his entire world. Azariah was always by his side, running around the barbershop, growing up in his father’s light. Cruz’s love for his son was deep, pure, and unshakable. He lived every day to give Azariah love, guidance, and a future full of possibility.
Cruz is survived by his son Azariah, his mother Geovanna, father Eric, sisters Gea and Jaelyn, brothers Loyal and Eric Jr., grandma Missi and grandpa Ralph, grandpa David, grandma Tonya, grandma Marilyn, great-grandparents Yolanda and Michael, uncles Michael, Joseph, Santino, Angelo, and Placido, aunties Destiney and Marina, and many more loving aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends who will carry his love forever.
Cruz lived with heart and gave his whole self to the people he loved. Though our time with him was far too short, the love he gave will last forever.
Rest easy, Cruz. We love you more than words can say, and we always will.
