Cherokee Michael Devan “Kee” “Damanekee” Hernandez, age 31, passed away on August 31, 2025, in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Born on July 19, 1994, in Gallup, New Mexico, Cherokee brought light and laughter into the world from the very beginning.

A proud graduate of Albuquerque High School, Cherokee went on to earn his Associate Degree in Business Administration from Brown Mackey. His education reflected his drive and determination to build a meaningful life rooted in purpose and growth.Cherokee was known for his vibrant personality—loving, respectful, and always smiling. A true jokester at heart, he had a gift for lighting up any room he entered. His loyalty ran deep and unwavering—a rare quality that left a lasting impression on those fortunate enough to know him. He cared deeply for his family and close friends, holding them close with fierce devotion.Sports were a central part of Cherokee’s life. Whether playing or watching, he found joy and connection through athletics. He had undeniable talent on the basketball court—his "madd" skills were well-known among those who played with him—and when it came to football, his passion for the Pittsburgh Steelers was unmatched. For Cherokee, Steelers football wasn’t just a pastime; it was life.

Cherokee is lovingly remembered by his father Eduardo Hernandez; mother Melissa (Lysa) Hernandez; sister Rebecca Hernandez; brothers Edward Tsali Hernandez and Matthew Montoya; grandfather Benjamin Damon Jr.; aunts Kieva Tedesco and Barbara Hernandez; uncles Frank Hernandez and Michael Tedesco; extended brothers Bennie James, Jonathan and Anthony Montoya. He also leaves behind many cousins—so numerous they could fill pages—each touched by his warmth and unforgettable spirit.May his memory bring comfort to those who knew him and may he charm Heaven as he did here on Earth—always humble, always shining. 

A Memorial Service will be held on September 8, 2025, from 11:00 AM to 02:00 PM at Trujillo Family Funeral Home 110 Alvarado St SE
