In Loving Memory of Charles Massey Thomas

Charles Massey Thomas, age 59, entered into the presence of his Lord and Savior on June 1, 2026. He was born on July 11, 1966, in Belen, New Mexico.

Charles was a loving father, proud grandfather, faithful friend, devoted veteran, and a man whose life was defined by perseverance, compassion, and service to others. He was preceded in death by his beloved mother, Nova Gallegos.

He is survived by his children, Jordin Navarro and Santana Thomas, whom he loved deeply and took great pride in. He also leaves behind three treasured grandchildren, Moses Thomas, Zacchaeus Thomas, and Elijah Chavez, who brought tremendous joy to his life. Charles is also survived by his siblings, Damien Thomas, Ro Van Damme, and Sondra Davis, as well as many beloved nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends who will cherish his memory for years to come.

Charles proudly served in the United States Army during Operation Desert Storm. The experiences of war left lasting wounds on his mind, and he courageously battled PTSD throughout much of his life. Yet even through his struggles, Charles remained determined to help others. He became a respected leader among fellow veterans and participated in numerous veteran programs, encouraging others to find hope, healing, and purpose.

A faithful attendee and servant at Sagebrush Church, Charles loved serving God and supporting his church family. He was known for having a generous heart and for helping people who were struggling. Whether someone needed encouragement, guidance, a meal, or a second chance, Charles was always willing to lend a hand. Many people found hope because he chose to invest in their lives.

Charles was blessed with a dear friend, Roxanne Santillanes, whose friendship and support meant so much to him. Through some of his most difficult seasons, Roxanne stood by his side, helping him navigate life’s challenges, overcome addictions, and find stable housing. Her kindness, loyalty, and unwavering support were a tremendous blessing in his life.

Outside of serving others, Charles enjoyed some simple pleasures. He loved gathering with family and friends over a good meal, especially at Red Lobster, where crab legs and seafood were always among his favorites. He was also a lifelong and passionate fan of the Detroit Lions. Year after year, he faithfully cheered for his team and held onto the hope that he would one day see them reach the Super Bowl. His enthusiasm for the Lions was known by everyone who loved him.

Those who knew Charles will remember his strength, determination, humor, and compassionate spirit. He understood hardship firsthand, which made him uniquely equipped to help others through their own struggles. His life was not without challenges, but through faith, service, friendship, and love for his family, he left behind a legacy that will continue to impact generations.

Though our hearts grieve his absence, we take comfort in knowing that his suffering has ended and that he is now at peace. His memory will live on in the stories we tell, the lessons he taught, the lives he touched, and the love he gave so freely.

“Gone from our sight, but never from our hearts.”
