Charlie (Charles) Lopez
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved husband, father, grandfather, and brother, Charlie (Charles) Lopez, who departed this life peacefully on April 21, 2025, after a long illness. He was surrounded by his loving wife and children in his final moments.
Born on April 2, 1940, in Socorro, New Mexico, Charlie was the cherished son of Nemesio and Pauline Lopez. He is preceded in death by his parents, granddaughter Santana, two sisters, Lola and Benita, and two brothers, Raymond (Tito) and Louie (Luiso).
Charlie is survived by his devoted wife, Reyes, with whom he shared 66 wonderful years of marriage. Together, they raised six children: Debbie Velasquez (husband Emilio), Josephine Jaramillo (husband Johnny), Rosemary Rosa Sandoval (husband Paul), Charlie Jr. Lopez (wife Susu), Gabriel Lopez (wife Angie), and Trini Lopez (wife Brenda). He was also blessed with 16 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great-grandchildren, as well as his siblings Felix Lopez, Nemesio Lopez (wife Ramona), Ernest (Catherine) Lopez, and Lucy Lopez.
As a dedicated provider, Charlie retired from construction work and later took on various jobs at UNM, a casino, and New Mexico Tech in Socorro. His greatest joy was spending time with family, whether through lively gatherings or sharing his passion for music. Charlie loved playing guitar and was particularly fond of listening to and singing New Mexico Corridos. He fondly reminisced about camping and hunting trips during his youth with his father and brothers.
