Carlos Joe Chavez

Carlos Joe Chavez was born on July 7, 1972, to Joe O. and Isabel Chavez. He was their youngest child and brought joy to the family from the moment he entered the world. Carlos was the cutest little baby, and his older sister, Joann, loved pinching his cheeks - a tradition that continued for many years.

Carlos grew up between Santa Rosa and Albuquerque, New Mexico, with most of his early childhood spent in Santa Rosa. He enjoyed carefree summers playing outside, visiting the parks and the Blue Hole, and spending hours at the river. As a little boy, he especially loved going to Kiddy Land, where he would convince Joann to push him on the merry-go-round over and over again.

He grew into a happy, outgoing young man who enjoyed boxing, football, family vacations, and reunions. Anything involving family made Carlos happy. Family was always one of the most important parts of his life.

After high school, Carlos joined the United States Army. In letters he sent home, he wrote about how much he enjoyed the experience. He returned home in 1992 and began working alongside his father in the construction business. Carlos spent much of his life working with and learning from his dad. His family proudly watched him develop tremendous knowledge and skill in the trade.

Carlos was intelligent, mechanically gifted, hardworking, funny, and always ready with a joke. He was a good man with a generous heart who was loved by many. Although life placed obstacles in his path, he continually worked to overcome them and did his best to reassure his family that everything would be all right.

Carlos always showed up for the people he loved - especially his parents, his sister Joann, and his niece Ashley. Whenever Ashley called, she knew her uncle Carlos would be there.

The words "I am my brother's keeper" reflect the love that surrounded Carlos throughout his life. They mean having a responsibility to love, protect, support, and look out for one another; that a brother's struggles matter, and that family does not turn away when someone is in need. Although no one can control every choice another person makes, Carlos's family remained present, compassionate, and loyal. They loved him, stood beside him, and cared for him through every season of his life.

Following the loss of his father, Carlos struggled deeply. Through every challenge, however, he continued finding his way back to his family. His final three months were spent surrounded by his mother, his sister, and his niece. They will forever be grateful for that precious time together and for the conversations, laughter, and love they shared.

Carlos was a treasured son, brother, uncle, family member, and friend. He had so much to offer and so much love to give, and he shared that love freely. His family was truly blessed to have him in their lives.

Carlos will be missed more than words could ever express. His family finds comfort in knowing that he has been reunited in heaven with his father and that they are now watching over those they loved.

Carlos's memory, laughter, and love will remain forever in the hearts of everyone who knew him.
