Bonnie Mae Phelan, born September 23, 1931, passed peacefully on May 16, 2026. She was preceded in death by her parents, Gladys and Charles Phelan,as well as her four siblings, Florence Caffey, Tommy Phelan, Douglas Phelan, and Patricia Phelan.
Bonnie is survived by her devoted niece, Mary Jo Caffey, who lovingly cared for her at the end of her life; niece Shirley Warren; and several great-nieces and great-nephews.
She had a long, fulfilling life.
Her early life was spent growing up on the family dairy farm, where a foundation of hard work was instilled. She later attended St. Joseph's college to get her teaching degree. She then served a fulfilling 30 years teaching 4th grade at Lavaland Elementary. After retirement she maintained a busy life, always surrounded by friends, family, and animals. She raised her Niece Mary Jo and also helped raise her Great Niece Patricia Mae Caffey. The animals she adored and cared for was countless, with the cat Eddie Freddie and the dog named Scruffy being among her favorites.
She also stayed in very close touch with all of her teacher friends, and they all met monthly at Sweet Tomatoes like clockwork.
At the end of her life, she passed peacefully at home with the companionship of Mary Jo.
Services will be held Thursday, May 21, 2026, at 11:30 a.m. at the Trujillo Family Funeral Home Chapel, with interment to follow at Mount Calvary Cemetery.
