Bert Marbin Lucero
June 15, 1950 – July 5, 2026
Honoring a lifetime of dedicated service, Bert Marbin Lucero, 76, of Albuquerque, NM,
passed away Sun, Jul 5, 2026, at the Raymond G. Murphy VA Medical Center after a
courageous battle with colon cancer. Born Jun 15, 1950, in Leadville, CO, to Juan and
Maria Lucero, his deep New Mexican ancestral roots inspired him to successfully
advocate for the legal recognition of the Las Trampas Land Grant.
A proud veteran, Bert enlisted in the U.S. Air Force in 1970, retiring as a Master
Sergeant after 36 years of combined active and reserve service. His military medic
training led to a decades-long career as a licensed practical nurse, primarily serving
fellow veterans at the Albuquerque VA Medical Center. Alongside his medical career, he
earned an MBA and dedicated a decade to writing a theological manuscript. A devout
member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Bert held waveringly to his
faith, principles, and country.
He is survived by Varaporn, his wife of 42 years; his sons Paul, Diego, and Jeremiah;
his brother Stanley; and seven grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his brother
Noel and granddaughter Aria Rose. Services have been held, with interment at Santa
Fe National Cemetery.
