Montano
April 19, 1949 – April 22, 2026
Antonio (Tony) Benito Montaño, aged 77, of Albuquerque, NM, passed away peacefully on April 22, 2026.
Born in Magdalena, NM on April 19, 1949, to parents Victor and Ignacita Montaño, Tony was a man of many talents and passions. Earning an associate degree from CNM set the foundation for his career in telecommunications, a journey that began as a lineman before he rose through the ranks to the position of engineer. His unwavering dedication and tenacity were evident in every step of his career journey.
Tony's patriotism was reflected through his distinguished service for three years in the Army and two years in the Air Force National Guard. His veteran status was his badge of honor, worn with great pride.
He was a devoted husband who, alongside his beloved wife Betty, found deep joy in exploring new places. Their shared love for travel brought them a wealth of unique experiences and treasured memories. Beyond his military service and career, Tony was also a caring father and adoring grandfather. His granddaughters were the apples of his eye, lighting up his world with their very presence. Never one to pass up an outdoor adventure, Tony found happiness through fishing, hunting, and camping. Music was a vital part of his life, with live mariachis being his favorite, especially when they played his beloved song, Allá En El Rancho Grande. At home, he relaxed by losing himself in the captivating world of Western shows.
Tony is preceded in death by his father, Victor Montaño; his mother, Ignacita; his sister, Priscilla Montaño; and sister Josie Ramirez.
Mourning his loss, but celebrating his legacy, are his wife, Betty Montaño; his son, Greg Montaño; his daughter, Brenda Garcia and her husband, Noel; granddaughters Savannah Duby and Sierra Bodner and her husband Jerry; along with his sister, Helen Armijo.
Tony brought joy to all who had the good fortune to know him. His unwavering strength and resilience were his trademarks. It is in these qualities, along with countless cherished memories, that his memory will live on.
Service arrangements will be announced in due course. The family extends their heartfelt thanks to everyone for their kind words, thoughts, and prayers during this difficult time. Tony was indeed a remarkable man who will be sorely missed.
